Updates appear on the **Plugins** and **Dashboard** > **Updates** screens in WordPress. When one is available, click **Update now**.

- **CartPops Free** updates come from WordPress.org.
- **CartPops Pro** updates come through Freemius. Your license must be active on the site to receive them.

If a Pro license is not available, Pro features pause, but your saved settings are kept.

## Before you update

1. Back up your database and your plugin files.
2. Try the update on a staging copy of your store if you can, especially if you use custom CSS or custom code that targets the drawer.
3. Read the [changelog](/changelog) for what changed.

:::warning[Updating from V1 to V2]
Going from V1 to V2 is a bigger change than a normal update. Settings are migrated automatically, but some V1 customizations (custom JavaScript, theme hooks, menu triggers) work differently or no longer run. Read [Upgrading to V2](/upgrading-to-v2) before you update.
